A voter since I turned legal in 1959, I became a Political junkie at my grandparents and parents’ knees My Dee Dee, my mother’s mother took me to all kinds of political meetings and party agendas Many blacks, at the time, felt something radical should be happening. Mudoo, (my mom) suggested she leave me at home. Dee Dee was my weekend care giver. This allowed mudoo time to herself. Perhaps that book she promised, but never wrote. However, she made a contribution with her reading program ©Phonetic Rock. I recall sitting at Dee Dee & Mr. Horace’s (my step granddad, actually the only granddad beside my dad’s dad who died quite old. I heard the “Day of Infamy” speech from FDR to “I’ll vote gladly for Adlai who ran for president in 1953 or 1961; to helping out during election day at Dee Dee’s house where a polling place was in session.  She also cooked & soled Chitterlings & coleslaw. To raise funds for her lodge scholarships. We often visited Central Ave. where Nixon, by poster, was denigrating Helen G Douglas, which, I believe, was the start of the smear tactic that has become familiar to me representing the Repub. Basing system. My mom was involved in several civil rights groups and served her community & race admirably. My entire family was involved in political rights & struggle of minorities in America. My Dad, from San Diego, early on, was a member of VISTA, which grew into Common Cause. My dad was acknowledged for his contribs by this organization.  My cousin’s wife had a problem with his methods and thought he came on a little too strong but that was his way. Belligerent & domineering when drinking, a thoughtful and perceptive man when sober. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Omega, the Urban League and voter precinct assistant. He passed away in 1986 on his 1st trip to Europe, Ethel his wife of many years had preceded him in passing. On this trip, walking, which was never one of his strong points, undid him & he collapsed went into a coma & died shortly thereafter in Paris, France.

His funeral was sad, & closed an era for me and those who knew Clyde Morrison Thompson.

Well, it’s the day after the election and Kerry LOST. Four more years of Geo Bush. You can’t say enuf grouchy things about dubbya but his base was filled with Cultural Conservatives & the Religious righteous. They took the states their way. As a black, I find it especially disheartening because we are hoping for more civil rights for our people. But, they say, Blacks in Ohio didn’t come out and the most heralded young people didn’t vote. America is all about capitalism if you don’t believe it, look at the price of food, gas, etc. in America today. However, Dubyya’s people don’t care. Another interesting thing is that Dub didn’t carry NY, the state where the deaths occurred mainly in 9/11. Once must conclude that folks in NY are more concerned about other issues rather than the main one d is about terrorism Iraq & Afghanistan!

Doug Basham laments Dub election but says he took election by lies, intimidation, etc. sounds like terrorism in America. Caller says 6 of 10 hispans told wrong place to vote. Kerry’s VP said won’t stop till all votes are counted. But will give concession speech at 10am.  Many voters per caller, based vote on moral issues he states this is code word for religion. Fundamental theocracy is what we are becoming. Terms heard during the election: Really hurtful to all sides Dummycrats, swift boat liars, flip flop; the party of debauchery. Fag lovers. What happened to moral builders? Why preemptive war? Why not help people who are really being abused, i.e. Sudan, North Korea; no we’ll not mess with those who have (nuke stuff, that is.)

Dubbya: you people don’t understand the mentality of the Texan. Even though he was not born there, he has a certain duty to perform as a Texan. Poor Gov. Ann, this is the fourth time the ‘dummycrats’ have been outsmarted in the hen house by the gosh, shucks, just a country boy mask that Texans wear. Humbled by the oil field walk away, and debts accrued too, Dub waved his magic wand around Texas promised & delivered & then Texas went right & hasn’t looked back plus had to do it with Mex & AA help.

Growing Up

The Republicans dirty tricks began

When I was a kid, my grandparents would ride up to Central Avenue and watch the people go by. Right there on the corner, was campaign headquarters for Helen G Douglas. She was vilified in what I think was the 1st dirty political campaign that I saw for my own eyes. Because she was sensitive to the minority cause, Nixon branded her a commie, pinko, etc. Which, as far as I could tell, incorrect! A voter since I turned legal in 1959, I became a Political junkie at my grandparents and parents’ knees. My Dee Dee, my mother’s mother, took me to all kinds of political meetings and party agendas. Many blacks, at the time, felt something radical should be happening, encouraged Blacks & Jews to find an alternative to the rich Republicans & prejudiced Southern Democrats. The rest of us were somewhere in the middle. Paul Robeson, was vilified. Marcus Garvey was railroaded on trumped up charges. But as the troubles in New Orleans during the Katrina Hurricane, show that Dixie-crates are still alive & well in most Southern States. After all, that was what the Civil Rights Movement was about and that was as late as 1960’s. Mudoo, (my mom) suggested she leave me at home. Dee Dee was my weekend care giver. This allowed Mudoo time to herself.  Perhaps that book she promised, but never wrote. However, she made a contribution with her reading program ©Phonetic Rock. . She was a teacher, voting advocate, entrepreneur and later author, of Phonetic Rock a reading program that teaches kids how to place their mouths to make the sounds needed to read efficiently.

Grandparents influences

I recall sitting in Dee Dee & Mr. Horace’s kitchen, (my step granddad, actually the only granddad beside my dad’s dad.) where I heard the “Day of Infamy” speech from FDR to “I’ll vote gladly for Adlai (Adlai Stevenson, known for his eloquence & wit who ran for president in 1952 (and 56). To helping out during Election Day at Dee Dee’s house where a polling place was in session.  She also cooked & soled Chitterlings & coleslaw. To raise funds for her lodge scholarships. We often visited Central Ave. where Nixon by poster, was denigrating Helen G Douglas, which, I believe, was the start of the smear tactic that has become familiar to me representing the Repub. His funeral was sad, & closed an era for me and those who knew Clyde Morrison Thompson. . I learned early that the world is truly separated by Race, Class & Gender; the have’s still have & the poor don’t; the picture that I’ve formed now in alost 60 years of political observance.

After Los Angeles & politics where our neighbor, Mike Roose came & went. A Democrat we lost touch with when we went to Spain in 1989. We came back in 91 to TX but heard nothing about him.

Politics had become the coalition of the willing i.e. slam the messenger, There were very few political hacks in TX.  Rush Limbaugh was ragging on Mayor Denkins of NY. Saying Gov. Denkins where are you? Singing, jokingly, about him like he was a dogcatcher; ragging on the NAACP and calling by some other initials i.e. NAA Sap P something like that. Another commentator, a long time TX resident, was pitted against his own Republican son who constantly belittled his dad, all the time, because of his contrary opinions. We left TX unsettling, as it was never to return. We left some good friends but they are doing well. Austin has become an R&D town much to their credit.  Richards lost and all her appointments left, including a very good Insurance Commissioner who had come to TX at her special request. So that was a traumatic experience. The 1st in charge bureaucrat, at the Department of Insurance of color, and a woman, was committed to Gov Ann's, team. So the other supervisor's weren't sure she was going to stay.  Even though the population of TX is pretty diverse, very few blacks were in positions of authority. Texans were leaning more towards Mexicans, which is their right. Most minorities have more that a passing right to jobs of authority, not buffoonery and it’s good to see this beginning to happen, finally.

We again set up to register, and help fight for new blood in the county & city government. Even though we live in the heart of the city. We are in the county. No one has given me a satisfactory explanation why this is so but that’s the way it is.

# of Presidents

There have been lets see since I began studying politics, there have been Nixon, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Reagan Clinton & the Bushes.

I’ve discussed Nixon already and his sol called disgrace – if so, why was he pardoned? The republicans decided, after Nixon, or in spite of him, to be kindler & gentler; they’ve succeeded in trying to reverse all elements of the New Deal & The Great Society thru intimidation, & covert changes in the way the constitution is interpreted and the leniency or whatever of what they perceive as activist judges. Nixon negatives, we’ve already alluded to, though he liked black music & appointed a SPG that became a so-called liberal (this is because the republicans have moved so far to the right that their predecessors seem liberal compared to them. This is about the time the Dixie crates were chased out of the Democratic Party & went over to the Republicans. Democrats said, “free at last”, thank god their gone"! The die hard Dixie crates had to die off; including one who had a black baby by a housekeeper; Kennedy appeared on the right track but no matter what he would have done he is now branded a womanizer and dismissed; Johnson of course shepherded through the Civil Rights Voting act which outlawed things like the Dixie rat led poll tax, grandfather clause, goodies like that that they though would deter them but like the folks in South Africa, they were to succeed. Carter: a true gentleman and elder statesman. Carter hired my stepbrother, Homer Broome from Los Angeles to head up a group that was looking at innovative ways police departments through out the USA were using tools to connect to their individual communities.

He served for a couple of years and got to live in Washington D.C. He even took my Dad & his Mom on a tour of the white house! A big thrill for the pair who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1980 or there abouts. They were married until her death in 1981 or so.  See article concerning Commander Broome in RG&C.

Carter’s Habitat for Humanity; his books, and speeches make him a leader of ALL people.

Reagan: What can one say about the Teflon don. One of the democrats who didn’t want to become a dixie-crat so he became a Republican when he saw the writing on the wall that the majority rule of the Euro-americans would be winding down before too long. Politicians have no trouble foretelling the future of minorities but have a hard time seeing the amount of traffic new buildings or sport centers will cause the need for parking.  One bad thing for me also was a good thing in a way. I lost my graduation diploma from CSULA which was signed by Mr. R. whom I despised for many of the bad things he initiated under his ‘watch’: Prop 13, and his Denouncement of Angela Davis. As President, his hedging on the facts of the wiretapping of MLK,  Iran Contra; he lied & later admitted that he was in on Iran gate; dissolving the fair & balanced doctrine of radio; the list of my dislikes for Ronnie is long. All but said Dr. King was a womanizer & time would tell as he sealed the infamous spy methods used by the cross dressing chief of the efeybaye.  (FBI in Spanish phonetically). And his refusal to allow the female professor Angela Davis to teach in the California College system.

G Bush: The Gulf War fought in a smart manner way far from his fanatical tyrannical son. George the 1st being the kinder/gentler soul that he said he was let ‘em use. Willie Horton; according to KK”s book the guy who thought this up apologized. As far as I know Geo 1st never did. Must have been Barbara, who moonlights as the Quaker Oats

Person. Who said never let me see you sweat or apologize.

Clinton Do you feel my pain? A gifted talker, scholar & historian, he has captivated most all he meets; but like an old wound, he’ll never be free of his “ I never had sex with that woman “ comment & will play the price. Too bad a story promulgated by the Republicans was able to stick & become a told you so? Looks like Slick Willie as Republicans call(ed) him he never liked that phrase). Even though the Republican military man, Oliver North, who lied to congress, shredded documents and probably had affair with his secretary is a commentator, today, on Fox Cable News.

G Bush 2 Slimy politics which he says is ‘just politics’ probably the most horrible is how he treated, Senator McCain, Max Leland & pelted J. Kerry with the swift boat (liars) as my favorite

Talk show host says. And if someone has a grudge against you since the time of Nixon, my guess is, you won’t win that one. Too much baggage.

Now George Bush coming from a dynasty of money makers and deal politicians has got that 2nd term he dreamed of; he’s restored his Dad’s honor and brought war to the middle east to atone for the humiliation and scorn the bushes feel towards those who disagree with them. It’s a mystery to me after reading the Kitty Kelly book that people would try & buck a family like this. Almost like trying to swim upstream. Every step you take, they’ve already taken it. They also take major steps to protect their name, ideology and acts that may possibly cast them in a bad light. Even now, bloggers state that maybe Bush didn’t win his 2nd election after all! Just like the 1st one! One of the voting machine makers had ties to GW & was believed to have said, he’d deliver Ohio for Mr. Bush. This guy claims that when exit polls predicted Kerry as the winner, why then did Bush emerge as the winner? Nothing funny about that! Well, now Republicans want to get rid of exit polls.

This guy claims that when exit polls predicted Kerry as the winner, why then did Bush emerge as the winner? Nothing funny about that! Well, now Republicans want to get rid of exit polls.
